Special congratulations to Germany's team who won after an extremely hard fought match against Spain in penalty shoutouts. After a 27-27 tie at the end of 60 minute regulation, and 36-36 after 2 additional 10-minute periods, Germany secured the victory in penalties with a final score of 41-40. This game will likely be remembered for a very long time, for being such an intensive nail biting competition.
The US team attended the competition and got to gain experience against the top European professional teams. After exceeding expectations early on in the tournament with loses to Denmark (36-25) and Czechia (41-32), they concluded their tournament bid with a strong win against Mexico in the President’s Cup. It is only the beginning of the road to increase the number of players in the United States, and to developing players to play at the elite international level. SDHA will become a part of this effort in developing players to compete at the highest level on the international stage.
SDHA wishes a speedy recovery to Aaron Wolf-Bloom who sustained an ACL injury at this World Championship event. Aaron is joining our San Diego community and will be part of the UCSD college team.
I'm super excited to continue promoting the sport and join the effort to develop youth handball in San Diego. I can't wait to get back on court!
Aaron Wolf-Bloom, left back from U19 USA National Team
